The Mk 48 (Mark 48) is a belt-fed general-purpose machine gun chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO. The weapon was designed in the early 2000s, following a request from United States Special Operations Command for a replacement for the M60.
It is manufactured by Fabrique Nationale Manufacturing Inc., a division of FN Herstal based in the US.
