The Merkava is the main battle tank of the Israeli Defense Force. The Merkava's diesel engine is located in front, allowing space for a 60mm internal mortar and a rear clamshell door. Other armament includes a 120mm main gun (in a distinctive tapering turret), a .50 caliber machine gun, 2 7.62mm machine guns, and self-protection dispensers.
