War flag of Manchukuo
The Manchurian Imperial Army was the ground force of Manchukuo, a Japanese puppet state in northeastern China from 1932 to 1945. Established after the Japanese invasion of Manchuria, it initially comprised former Chinese troops under Zhang Xueliang, later expanding to include Han Chinese, Manchus, Mongols, Koreans, Japanese, and White Russians.
Peaking at 170,000–220,000 soldiers by 1945, it fought Communist and Nationalist guerrillas and the Soviet Red Army.
Led by Emperor Puyi, it relied heavily on Japanese support, with cavalry as its main strength, though it was ultimately outmatched by the Soviets in the 1945 Manchurian Strategic Offensive Operation.
