A puppet state created by the empire of Japan after their invasion of northeastern China, also known as Manchuria. Manchukuo was created in 1932 as a republic but was changed to a constitutional monarchy in 1934 when last emperor of the former Qing dynasty, Puyi took over power. Manchukuo's capital was Hsinking (Xinjing) meaning "new capital" and is today known as Changchun.
Manchukuo's motto was "Five Races Under One Union" (adapted from the motto of the Republic of China) which reflected the five largest ethnicities living in Manchuria: the Manchu people, Han Chinese, Mongol, Hui people and Koreans, this was also reflected in Manchukuo's flag. Although Manchukuo presented itself as a nation with the five races, many other smaller ethnic minorities were suppressed and murdered.
Manchukuo was dissolved on August 18th, 1945 after Puyi abdicated on the 17th following the Soviet invasion of Manchuria that year.
