舞風 "Whirlwind", literally "Dancing Wind"
The personification of the Japanese destroyer Maikaze in Kantai Collection, 18th of the Kagerou-class.
Character design by Konishi (koconatu), voiced by Bridcutt Sarah Emi.
She was a member of the 4th Destroyer Division, along with Nowaki, Hagikaze, and Arashi. As such, the four are often portrayed together.
Her name means "whirlwind", but the characters, taken individually, mean "Dancing Wind", so as a joke and primary character trait, she's treated as a character who loves dancing. She is constantly excited and upbeat, often talks about wanting to dance with the admiral, refers to combat as a 'dance' as well, and says she dislikes gloomy things.
Maikaze has blonde hair with parted bangs up front and tied in a short ponytail with a scrunchie in the back. She has gray/blue eyes. Maikaze wears a school uniform that includes a gray vest and pleated skirt, like other Kagerou-class shipgirls. She wears white gloves, has a white shirt underneath the vest, and a red ribbon. Her combat gear involves double-barreled cannons on turrets for each hand, another pair strapped to her thighs, and torpedo launchers worn like a backpack. Unusually for a destroyer, she has no mast or smokestack on her back.
Historically, she was destroyed by a task force led by the USS New Jersey when she was escorting a convoy evacuating Truk in February 1944. She sunk with all hands.
