A common bird in the Corvidae family, found throughout Europe and in much of Asia. There are many magpie species; use this tag for the Common Magpie, Pica pica.
The Common Magpie is black with a metallic green and violet iridescence; the belly and shoulders are white; the wings are black glossed with green or purple, while the primary flight feathers have white inner webs which are notable when the wing is open. The long, wedge-shaped tail is black, glossed with green and reddish purple. The legs and bill are black.
The magpie is one of the few species and the only bird to pass the mirror test.
