The Lavochkin-Gorbunov-Gudkov LaGG-3 was a Soviet fighter aircraft of World War II. One of the most modern fighters available to the Soviet Union upon the German invasion, it was nevertheless slow, unreliable and easily outclassed by the Bf 109. The LaGG-3 was immensely unpopular with pilots, who nicknamed it the "varnished guaranteed coffin" (Lakirovanny Garantirovanny Grob).
