A Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Hatakaze-class guided missile destroyer, laid down in 1985, launched in 1987, and was commissioned in 1988 and is still in active service in 2021. Not to be confused with World War 2-era Imperial Japanese Navy destroyer also called Shimakaze (only ship of her class) or Minekaze-class destroyer Shimakaze that was laid down and launched in 1919, entered service in 1920 and was converted to a patrol boat in 1940 during which her name was changed from Shimakaze to Patrol Boat No. 1.
