Josef Rudolf Mengele (16 March 1911 – 7 February 1979), was a German SS officer and physician during World War II. He performed deadly experiments on prisoners at the Auschwitz II (Birkenau) concentration camp with his team of doctors. Well-known under the nickname "Angel of Death" (Todesengel).
Died in 1979 during hiding in Brazil. He had a heart attack while swimming near a beach.
