The largest city in the Republic of Turkiye. Originally known as "Constantinople" before being renamed to its current name in 1930. Served as the capital of the Ottoman Empire and the Byzantine Empire, with the city being founded as the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire in 330 AD by Constantine the Great.
Originally sitting only on the Western side of the Straits of Bosporus, the city has long-since spread to be on both sides. Notable landmarks include the Hagia Sophia.
