Edit
Qualifiers are those things in parenthesis you see at the end of some tags. They serve to make the exact meaning of the tag clear so there is no confusion with other tags.
There are many types of qualifiers.
Artist qualifiers
Many artists go by a short name that can be shared by other artists or characters. So Danbooru qualifies them with another text string that is related to that artist. It may be:
- the artist's website or blog name
- circle name
- The username (often different from their actual displayed name) that artist uses on a site like Pixiv, Twitter, DeviantART, Tinami, etc.
- Nickname
Examples: shimo_(depthbomb) / aile_(crossroads) / alphonse_(white_datura)
See howto:artist for more info.
Series Qualifiers
For names of characters that can be confused with characters from other series, or with artists. If the series name is long, an abbreviation may be used for the qualifier.
Examples: yamada_maya_(infinite_stratos) / knight_(ragnarok_online) / araya_(nakaimo) / angel_(evangelion)
Cosplay Qualifier
hatsune_miku_(cosplay) automatically adds both hatsune_miku and cosplay to a post.
Meme Qualifier
longcat_(meme) automatically adds meme to a post.
Distinguishing copyrights from characters or objects
metroid = The game series
metroid_(creature) = The alien creatures from the series
claymore_(series) = The manga and anime series.
claymore_(sword) = A type of sword, which the manga was named after.
Alternate forms of characters
Examples: hatsune_miku_(append) / saigyouji_yuyuko_(living)
