Her nickname is "Hachi" (simply "eight" in Japanese). She will usually refer to herself as "Hacchan". Sometimes, she will refer to herself as "Acht" ("eight" in German) by mistake.
Her historical counterpart having made a round trip between Japan and Germany, several of her lines are peppered with German (like Kongou with English and Hibiki with Russian). She is also an avid reader, which is translated as torpedoes launching out of books.
Sometimes referred to as "War crime-chan", as the crew that replaced the ones that made the round trip to Germany were convicted of murdering the survivors of the SS Tjisalak and SS Jean Nicholet.
