Sega's handheld gaming console released in 1990, designed to compete against the Game Boy. The Game Gear could not beat it in sales due to a short battery life, lack of original titles, and weak support from Sega.
Despite its shortcomings, many of the ports of Sega games from other systems (Among them Shinobi, Golden Axe, Alien Syndrome, Phantasy Star, etc.) for the Game Gear had unique features exclusive for this handheld and got very good reviews.
