Also known as Formula D, Formula Drift is a United States-based drifting championship. Because of the nature of the sport, FD events are scored by a panel of judges, similar to motocross or figure skating. As of 2013, Formula Drift began overseas expansion by introducing a Japanese championship.
Formula Drift vehicles must be rear-wheel drive (either from the factory or converted by the team's engineers), and cannot be trucks or SUVs. Popular cars for FD include the Nissan Silvia/180SX (and the US market 240SX versions), BMW M3/M4, Mazda RX-7 FD, Nissan Fairlady Z, Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette C6/C7, Dodge Viper, and Nissan Skyline GT-R.
