Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky (Феликс Эдмундович Дзержинский) was a Polish-born Soviet revolutionary and politician who served as the leader of two early Soviet secret police organisations, the Cheka and the OGPU. Under his leadership, tens to hundreds of thousands of dissidents were killed during the Red Terror campaign. Several monuments were made of Dzerzhinsky, one of which was located in Lubyanka Square. It was famously dismantled after the failed 1991 coup attempt.
