The Northrop F-5A/B Freedom Fighter is part of a family of lightweight twin-engine jet fighter developed by Northrop in the 1950s and first produced in 1962. The aircraft was later modified into the F-5E/F Tiger II, a more advanced version introduced in 1972.
Cheap, easy to operate and maintain, the F-5 is still in wide use with several air forces worldwide. It is equipped with a flat fuselage underside with a small tailhook; clipped-delta wings with wingtip missile rails and fixed armament comprising 2 20mm cannons in its nose. Up to 7,000 lbs (3,200 kg) of fuel stores can be carried on its weapon stations.
