The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is an American fifth generation single-seat, twin-engine state-of-the-art advanced fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology. It was designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, but has several additional capabilities that include ground attack, electronic warfare and reconnaissance.
The F-22 was developed from the original YF-22 prototype flight tested during 1990. The first mass produced F-22s first flew in 1997 and were officially introduced several years later in 2005.
The F-22 is the first mass produced fifth generation aircraft ever created and is still considered the most advanced operational fighter jet in the world. Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and Boeing Defense continue to be major partners in maintaining the United States of America Raptor fleet.
