An advanced development of the Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighter Tiger II jet fighter that began in 1975 and first flew in 1982. The Northrop F-20 "Tigershark" had small leading edge root extensions, a flattened nose, and a single F404 turbofan.
Despite proving to be a very capable multirole light combat aircraft during trials, only a few prototypes were developed and the jet was never mass produced. The project was finally cancelled in 1986.
