An export locomotive based off of the EMD SD40-series, the GT26 is a 3,000-3,300hp (2,240-2,460kW) locomotive that was built for multiple customers outside of the North American market, including South Korea, the former Yugoslavia, Iran, Algeria, and others. Nearly 1,400 units would be produced beginning from the late 1960s through the 21st Century, with many orders being given modifications based on customer needs such as ability to deal with harsh climates or the gauge of their rail lines.
