Blackbeard (c. 1680 – 22 November 1718), otherwise known as Edward Teach or Edward Thatch, was an infamous pirate who operated around the West Indies and the eastern coast of the American colonies. His ship was known as ''Queen Anne's Revenge'', and was outfitted with forty guns. He and his crew terrorized the West Indies and the Americas for three years before finally being taken down near Ocracoke, North Carolina by a small force of sailors led by British Royal Navy Lieutenant Robert Maynard.
