Lead ship of her class. Sometimes classified as battlecruisers, initiated the general trend towards fast battleships among European countries. Designed and built as a response to the German pocket battleships, their armor was only designed to resist German 11in guns. Scuttled at Toulon in 1942 when the Germans attempted to seize the Vichy French Fleet.
