A machine that makes copies of documents and images onto paper. In the past such machines used to be specialized in making photocopies, but that role today has been subsumed by large office multi-function printers that can make photocopies, print files, scan documents, and send faxes.
The American company Xerox was a dominant maker of photocopiers to the extent that their name became a genericized byword to mean photocopier and the act of making a photocopy.
