Cecil John Rhodes (1853-1902) was a British businessman and politician active in the south of Africa in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, serving as Prime Minister of the Cape Colony between 1890 and 1896. Rhodesia (comprising modern Zimbabwe and Zambia) was founded by and named for him.
