Heavy cruiser of the Hipper class (first group). Laid down in 1936, launched in 1937, commissioned in 1939, and sunk in 1940. Lead ship in the invasion of Norway (while also carrying 900 men of the 163rd infantry division as well as a number of Gestapo officers), was sunk by shore battery and torpedoes of Oscarsborg and Kaholm.
