The Mitsubishi B5M (Type 97 No. 2) was an Imperial Japanese Navy torpedo bomber developed and introduced in 1937 for carrier use. Seeing service at the same time as Nakajima's own B5N (both were designed to meet a 1935 Navy requirement for a long-range monoplane torpedo bomber), it lost out to the B5N as the standard carrier-based torpedo bomber of the IJN at the start of the war.
