The modernized variant of the AK-74assault rifle, introduced in 1991. The most noticeable feature is the whole standard black finish, as well as black synthetic side-folding stock and handguards. Its full-bodied stock retains the "full" shape of the original AK-74. Compatible with earlier AK-74 magazines and GP-25 series of grenade launchers.
The letter M stands for Модернизи́рованный (Modernizírovanny), a Russian word for "modernized".
