Assault helicopter in use by United States Army Aviation, the IDF and the JSDF, among others. Produced by Boeing. Recognition features include TADS/PNVS sensor assembly on nose, conventional wheeled landing gear, main-tail rotor configuration with four-bladed main rotor with swept tips. All-moving tailplane at end of low-mounted boom, along with a port-facing tail rotor with blades lying at angles of 60 and 120 degrees to each other. Engine pods on either side of the main fuselage. Crew of gunner and pilot under single canopy separated by bullet-resistant polycarbonate pane. Faired section at bottom of fuselage houses electronics.
Fixed armament of one 30mm M230 Chain Gun in underfuselage turret. The Apache's stub wings can carry various types of ordnance, including rockets, anti-tank missiles, and short-range air-to-air missiles.
The AH-64D Longbow variant has a flat radar dish mounted on top of the rotor mast.
