The Dogulas A-4 Skyhawk was a single seat subsonic carrier-capable attack aircraft designed to replace the A-1 Skyraider.
It used a low-mounted delta wing which reduced its complexity and size while improving performance. In addition, other features such as leading edge slats and main undercarriage were designed to minimize complexity.
The aircraft was designed by Ed Heinemann who previously designed the SBD Dauntless and the A-1 Skyraider. It served in the Vietnam War, the Yom Kippur War, and the Falklands War.
