A poisonous flower (species Lycoris radiata) commonly associated with death.
Spider lily represents 4-6 flowers growing from a central leafless stem, forming a sort of dome. Natural colors include red (most common), pink, white and yellow, sometimes depicted in non-existent black and blue. A noticeable feature is the long stamens, which give it a distinct entangled/spidery look, earning its common English name 'Spider Lily'.
Its Japanese name is "Higan-bana" (Higan flower) or "Manjushage". It blooms without leaves and bears leaves without flowers, which is why it is also known in Japan as 葉見ず花見ず (ha-mizu, hana-mizu), roughly translated as "without seeing leaves, without seeing flowers".
Not to be confused with chrysanthemum, as some species have long and thin outer petals that can resemble spider lily stamens.
