A dark fantasy manga written by Tezuka Osamu, first published in 1967 and later adapted into anime in 1969 and 2019, as well as a live-action movie in 2007 and several video games.
Set in the Sengoku period, the story revolves around a ronin named Hyakkimaru, who traveled with the orphaned thief Dororo to retrieve his missing body parts. They were split and scattered into 48 pieces after his birth due to his father (Daigo Kagemitsu) forging a pact with demons to gave him enough power to conquer the land. Hyakkimaru's job is to kill the demons who currently hold each part, and in the process try to fight his budding bloodlust and cynicism from taking over his common sense.
