A playable character in the Mega Man X series. Axl is a Reploid who defected to the Maverick Hunters from Red Alert, a rival organization that went bad. He's a brave kid with a strong sense of justice, but he's not a big thinker, and X -- whose own enthusiasm wore off a few apocalypses ago -- is reluctant to let him on the front lines.
Axl likes dual wielding a pair of handguns, but his real advantage is A Trans, an ability unique to him (at first) that lets him copy the forms of other Reploids. He also has hover-boots and gets special weapons from bosses like X does, but Axl's weapons are held rather than built in, and sometimes don't require ammo. Despite a host of very strong parallels, there's no official connection between Axl and Model A from the ZX games.
Axl's addition to the series in X7 was extremely controversial. He improved significantly in Command Mission and X8, but remains a fandom sore spot. He may or may not be named after Axl Rose.
