The personification of the fifth of ten Asashio-class Japanese destroyers in Kantai Collection.
She has long brown hair in twintails tied with hair ribbons and grey eyes. She wears a white shirt with a blue ascot and a grey pleated skirt held up by suspenders. She wears short black over-kneehighs and brown loafers with keels. Her combat gear includes a wrist-mounted twin-gun turret on her right arm and a quad torpedo launcher on her left. She wears a mock-up of her bridge like a backpack. Her visual appearance doesn't change much in her Kai, gaining only a white stripe on her skirt and a change of the small machinery ornaments on her hips.
There is an ongoing joke that she looks very similar to Error Musume in appearance.
The historical Asagumo was built for the Imperial Japanese Navy in the mid-1930s under the Circle Two Supplementary Naval Expansion Program. Asagumo originally led the 9th Destroyer Division. She participated in the first task force going into the Battle of Surigao Straight, of which only Shigure survived. She tried to rescue the survivors of the Fusou, even though her fuel had ignited, only to be sunk soon afterwards herself, killing nearly everyone from both ships. She may appear with the Fusou sisters or Shigure for that reason.
On November 27, 2017 the likely wreck of the Asagumo was discovered by the RV Petrel, Paul Allen's primary research and discovery ship, far south in Surigao Straight. Mr. Allen was the man who led the discovery teams for Musashi, Indianapolis and Yamashiro.
