Green Dam Girl (绿坝娘, lǜ bà niáng) is a personification of the Chinese government's DRM and filtering software "绿坝·花季护航 (Luba Huaji Huhang, Green Dam Youth Escort)" as well as an alternate personification of "The Great Firewall" (China's elaborate internet censorship algorithm).
At first, her figure resembled Kawashiro Nitori. But later, her various designs appeared. In most versions, she either wears a hat with the symbol of '河蟹 (hexie, River crab)' or having a green twintails and red eyes.
The word "Green Dam" were later used by both the Chinese netizens and outsiders as a shorthand term for the Chinese internet censorship (and various censorship deployed by the CCP in general). As such, Green Dam Girl has gained similar recurring meme status as Jiang Zemin within the Chinese internet community.
