A Hamburger Steak is a dish which consists of ground meat clumped together in a round shape and cooked. Unlike a meatloaf, neither a mold nor oven are used, and it is mainly cooked on a frying pan.
Although it is known by several names, such as “hamburger patty” or “salisbury steak”, in Japan it is called either “ハンバーグ (hamburg)” or “ハンバーグステーキ (hamburg steak).” Moreover, just like its name, this dish's ingredients and seasonings all vary slightly.
In Japan, it is extremely popular among children, and is a standard part of the menu in school lunches and family restaurants.
