A Playstation 2 RPG and part of the Persona series of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, released 10 July 2008 in Japan, 9 December 2008 in North America and 13 March 2009 in Europe.
The game follows a high school junior who, due to his parents' work overseas, moves from the city to the rural town of Inaba to live for a year with his uncle and local policeman Doujima Ryoutarou and his six-year-old daughter Nanako. With his new friends from the local high school, he investigates a series of inexplicable murders and the truth about a TV channel that only appears during midnight, armed with Personas, materialized aspects of their personalities.
Received a enhanced port on the Playstation Vita, and later Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S and Nintendo Switch, entitled Persona 4 the Golden. It is set in the same universe as its predecessor, Persona 3. A fighting game, Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena, also acts as a direct sequel to the game.
Another spinoff is the novel Persona X Detective, taking place 1 year after the events of Persona 4.
