The Reichsadler ("Imperial Eagle") is a German heraldic emblem used since the Holy Roman Empire as a symbol of the German State, adopted by the German Empire as the national emblem. Its use as the National Emblem continued under the Weimar Republic. The Weimar version was re-adopted by the West Germany and modern-day Federal German Republic as the Bundesadler.
Despite its medieval origin, the term Reichsadler in common English understanding and here refers to the Nazi-era version that consists of a monochrome eagle facing to its side, with straight outstretched wings, and both talons clutching a circular wreath containing a swastika. This also includes the variants, such as the Parteiadler (NSDAP party emblem, left-facing) and the Luftwaffe one (curved wings with single talon clutching).
