Masks of Emotion
Hata no Kokoro is a Noh artist who also sings and dances. Today was the day of her solo concert. She wore a cute, stylish black dress for the occasion, and her masks, which are a part of her, had also taken on different appearances. The colorful and intricate Venetian-style masks floated around her as she performed.
Masked Dancer Rebellion is the name of Kokoro’s band. Led by Kokoro, its members include Mai, Satono, and the Tsukumo sisters. They are all extremely talented in their own right, but they also share a profound knowledge and appreciation of music. The name originated from combining Kokoro’s masks, Mai and Satono’s dancing, and the Tsukumo sisters’ rebellious philosophy. However, on this day, Kokoro was performing solo. Apparently, the other members had to perform at a different concert on the same day… at least, that was what they told her.
Hata no Kokoro cannot change her expression, perhaps because she is a mask tsukumogami. However, as she sings, her cheeks flush, and it almost looks as if she is smiling. The masks floating around her also look as if they’re happily dancing along with her songs. She exudes an aura of a girl who loves performing on stage with all her heart, however, it seems she still hasn’t learned the source of this burning passion or how to properly express it.
LOST&FOUND 2024 Transcendent Melodies
Kokoro did her best to entertain the crowd by singing the songs the band had composed together and dancing their simple dance routines. It was strange. The more she performed, the faster her heart beat in her chest. Looking down on the many-colored light sticks swaying in time with her music, she was struck by the beauty of it all. She wanted to experience this again―not just by herself, but with the whole band together.
“Thanks for coming out here to watch me perform, everyone. I hope to see you all at my next concert, too.”
Just when Kokoro finished her outro, a biwa and a koto started playing behind her.
“Surprise!”
“Ready for some more elegant dancing and enchanting music?!”
“The Masked Dancer Rebellion has arrived!”
Kokoro couldn’t believe her eyes as girls in matching costumes shot out of the stage’s wings and gathered around her.
“Guys…! You came?!”
“Hehehe, it looks like our super secret plan was a success.”
Even though her expression didn’t change, there was no doubt about what Kokoro was feeling at that moment. She chose to express these feelings by raising her arms in the air and shouting, “This concert isn’t over yet! Let’s gekokujo!”
