The Fantasy Field Guide - King Eater Dragonling
Field Guide:
The King Eater Dragon or Le Mangeur de Rois
The King Eater is a species of feral dragon that roam the forests and grasslands. It's muscular frame, powerful wings and strong jaws make it a formidable medium sized dragon.
In this illustration:
After seeing a flight of female King Eaters on the hunt our local guide suspected a nest maybe near by. After some searching we able to find it well hidden on the ground, tucked in a circle of brier bushes. The nest was fairly simple, a circle of hardened dirt raised about two foot high and in the middle the ground was dug out a bit creating a dip about 3 foot deep. The floor of the nest of lined with branches and saplings. Sitting on this bed was a single infant, about the size of a chicken hen it was perhaps only a few weeks old. It was clear that the guardians of the lone infant because outside of the nest were scattered the bones of fish, small mammals and even feathers and bones of birds, insuring that bugs and pest were kept out of the nest for the most part. The dragonling appeared to be a male and even though he noticed us rather quickly he did not seem afraid. Instead he looked at each of us a curiousity perhaps equal to ours.
