〇 Interludes, epilogue, work as a whole
Komachi's a striking example, but... even though several characters connected to Higan and the Sanzu seem sloppy, absent-minded, even mean-spirited in a very Touhou-like manner, I have the image that they suddenly get a lot more strict and serious when it comes to the border between the living world and Hell, the reincarnation of souls, et cetera.
That's a major theme of this book too, with Kutaka and Urumi goofing around, making themselves look bad, right until it comes to the child's soul. They have two very contrasting sides to them, but I also wanted to make it seem like a bit of a double standard on their part.

Urumi-san's omake.txt gave me the strong impression that she was hiding some real war stories of a rascally past, so I decided to throw aside any pretense of canon basis and let headcanon run wild for a bit. I love the idea of the three of them as legendary former street gangsters...
At this point, I kind of want to throw caution to the wind and draw a story all about that. Fill the empty space in the panels with nothing but "!?"
〇 Clean, Unclean
Keiki's obvious inspiration Haniyasushin/Haniyasuhime having been born from excrement, her wanting to abolish flesh and rebuild things "beautiful" from clay and water, the way she made the interior of the lush Garden into a sterile cyberscape... it all gave me the idea that she hated the "impurity" (in other words, life) within herself. This was the result.
But, well... it ends up being way too similar to my earlier book Ikaregami. I regret that.
〇 Ribbon Limbo Ring
People who have worked in crafts probably know what I mean: when you take your work to be evaluated, the best attitude is to feel that feeling for a while, take a breath, and move on to the next project. In the same way, Eika's stone-stacking contests are about stacking them up the same way, resetting them, and starting over... If you think about it, aren't the Sanzu River oni who kick over the towers doing the exact same thing? That suspicious feeling became the basis of this story.
I also heavily emphasized Eika's jellyfish theming, especially the "Portuguese man-of-war → colonial organism" association. I mean, surely ZUN is going for that too.
〇 Dueling Young-mama-nba
Something of an expansion of an Urumi + Nemuno joke I drew on Twitter. Aya turning into a baby is also from there.
...but all in all, I only had a hazy concept for this one, and started drawing from there.
As I mention below, Urumi gives me "young mama" vibes, but I also think it's fun if her past is all kinds of shady...
〇 Avian Liberation Front
Kutaka's omake.txt mentions that she's "considering what she can do to help raise the status of chickens, who've been reduced to a food source for humans". Reading that, I immediately thought "Okay, so just make them eat human instead!!" and drew this careless story with a careless attitude. It was fun.
Also, her line within WBaWC itself, "Being birdbrained is a valuable trait of mine!" seems weirdly heavy!! What do you think, Miare-sama??
