A Dance of Life
Scarlet J50 — a little whale that quickly became the symbol of the Southern Resident Killer Whales. Her joy and energy sparked hope for further recovery of the community, that is currently suffering from having not enough food to provide not only to the calves, but to all of the whales. Sadly, Scarlet passed someday in 2018. Her relatives - mother J16 Slick, brother J26 Mike and sisters J42 Echo and J36 Alki are still roaming the waters of the seas, trying to find some food.
Last week news saddened the cetacean community as it was announced that three more whales went missing. Currently the population consists of just 73 whales and the action must be taken now! The Center for Whale Research has a great page dedicated to all the ways you can help to save these whales: www.whaleresearch.com/action

A fun not-so-fun fact is you can't actually see the first steps of the process. In the beginning I had worked for a few hours and got to the first details, but then I realised it is not what I wanted this artwork to be. So I started from 0 and this little GIF shows exactly the second attempt. This happens not so often, but when it does, it definitely leaves memories about the process. :) (Smile)
