Board to Kill /「ボード・トゥ・キル」OVA
Board to Kill was an unreleased 35 minute OVA produced in 1991 by the defunct Studio Wave. All copies were destroyed overnight in a fire following the economic bubble bursting in Japan, leading many to believe that the destruction of the studio and its material was a desperate attempt to collect insurance money.
Recently I was inspired to try and create something that has a similar atmosphere to the classic films of Mamoru Oshii from the 90s. I wanted to see if it's possible to replicate or at least make something stylistically similar to those films without resorting to lots of compression and VHS effects to hide imperfections. These are primarily 3D scenes that have paint overs and shading drawn by hand, with color palettes meant to imitate said old movies. I would like to eventually try some simple character scenes or animation in this style as well, so stay tuned.
