As you can probably tell from the title, this story was written with the idea of Ran-sama and Iizunamaru being friends. Fighting is an obvious way to deepen one's friendship. Isn't that right, friend? Iizunamaru is quite a stubborn musclehead here, so I like the buddy-buddy aura she gives off with the more careful, intelligence-type Ran-sama. Whichever takes the lead, the story can move forward nicely. In fact, this duo felt more natural to write than I expected. As explained above, they're really a cluster of interesting possibilities, so I'd love to find as much story material there as possible.Well then. Till next time.The youkai constellations do include one called the "Great Tengu", so I think there's some material for a story including Yukari as well. The problem is, only about maybe 20% of Touhou fans have read CoLA (based on the Popularity Poll questionnaire). Even if I drew that story, I'm worried if people would get what it's based on. Hrrm.
No, wait. Has that ship sailed? My books are already like that.So. This time we had a story about Yakumo Ran and Iizunamaru Megumu. As I've been saying for a while, I wanted to draw a short story focused on these two.
It goes without saying that Iizunamaru is modeled after Iizuna-gongen, who is usually depicted standing on a fox, but Ran also has a spell card named Illusion God "Descent of Iizuna-gongen" based on that fox connection. I haven't yet decided whether Iizunamaru is supposed to be the Iizuna-daigongen, but Tsukasa is a fox regardless, and I'm always happy to have more characters to connect to Ran-sama, y'know? The fact that when I look around, no one else seems to be talking about it must be just my imagination. Having such a clear connection, they could even become a rareship... Yeah, as if. Right?
What's more, given Iizunamaru's "ability to manipulate the starry sky", she could be considered closely connected to the youkai constellations named by Yakumo Yukari (as per CoLA), or the Hifuu Club with its frequent star theming. (The Big Dipper and tengu connections also tie her to Matara Okina.) As someone with direct links to Yakumo Yukari, Yakumo Ran and even the Hifuu Club, I think the great tengu Iizunamaru Megumu has great potential indeed regarding the Yakumo family.
