Doomsday - ''Day of Wrath''
This drawing was commissioned by me and drawn by VincentiusMatthew.
I have permission to distribute this work.
This is an illustration of one of the scenes from my Doom creative writing project, "Day of Wrath." It depicts the prototype "Doomsday" ATLAS mech engaging in warfare at the Advanced Research Complex.
ATLAS stands for Armored Terrestrial Logistics and Attack System, and refers to the piloted mechs manufactured by the Amber Sun corporation in my story. Doomsday in particular is a classified project produced by both Amber Sun and the UAC.
The ATLASes are heavily inspired by the Titan mechs from Titanfall, and Doomsday was a fun little experiment of mine in designing a Doomguy-themed mech.
Doomsday is a medium-class ATLAS with medium defense and speed stats, and its loadout includes:
- Mode Switch - Doomsday possesses two distinct combat modes, these being ranged and melee combat. Instead of carrying an additional firearm, Doomsday's guns are carried directly on its arms, which can be transformed into robotic hands to throw some heavy punches.
- i5577 Chaingun - A medium-class autocannon wielded on the right arm. Slightly weaker than the D12, the i5577 shoots explosive rounds that are still capable of tearing an enemy mech apart without much trouble.
- BFG-8400 - Wielded on the left arm, this BFG fires a single explosive orb at a time. Although it does not release tracer streams, the orb can take out a Hell Knight with a direct hit, can break most defensive shields, and briefly paralyzes robotic units. The gun can hold 3 shots at a time, which automatically recharge.
- Kinetic Field - A defensive ability with a recharging energy pool, this vortex projected from the left hand catches incoming projectiles and absorbs them to recharge Doomsday's overshield, since it does not automatically regenerate. It has no offensive capacity and does not block melee attacks.
- Psion Wave - Instead of Electric Smoke, Doomsday discharges a powerful audio-psionic wave in all directions that does considerable damage and stuns nearby enemies while pushing them back. This wave will immediately kill imps, Griefers, or Pilots attempting to rodeo the ATLAS to attack its exposed components.
- Grindcutter - Instead of disposable Plasma Knives, Doomsday can extend a short Argent-tipped chainsaw from its left arm that can likewise take out a Hell Knight with a single hit, though its primary use is to produce metallic scrap for its ammo fabricators to create ammo with. The Grindcutter only has a single regenerating charge, though it can be used against robotic/metallic/armored enemies unlike the normal chainsaw.
- Rocket Jets - Doomsday cannot dash, though it does have back-mounted jet thrusters that enable it to run and even jump in Mars' low gravity, useful for overhead slams.
- Orbital Strike - Doomsday's ultimate ability is to call in an orbital strike anywhere on the battlefield from the ARES Array, a collection of military satellites armed with devastating Argent beam cannons. These strikes have the power and strength of a tactical nuke, though being Argent-based, they are capable of killing strong- and even elite-tier demons.
- Core Overload - In the case of catastrophic damage, Doomsday can explosively self-destruct by overloading its Argent reactor. Since the Slayer used a BFG fusion core as the power source, the resulting explosion had the strength of a BFG blast.
- Armor fabrication - Unlike other mechs, Doomsday can recover a bit of armor plating by melee-killing other robotic units.
