Or maybe it was a way to instill a sense of dignity in the fantasies of children, if you want to put it that way.
As time goes by, any given religion acquires ever more nuance, and thus more sects which aim to define its true essence.
It's become a day of consumption for a society that values materialism over faith in the divine.
