USS New Orleans CA-32 (Revised)
The revision of New Orleans' portrait (except for the outfitting).
New Orleans was a girl very optimistic and enthusiastic. You can always see her in high spirits. It seems, from the perspective of other shipgirls...a bit too optimistic.
She had six good sisters, each of whom has been taught by her to be a loyal and tough girl. She and her sisters have been active in the escorting the carrier task force. The battle for New Orleans has begun since the attack on the Pearl Harbor, while she was still in the dry dock. "Praise the god and bring the ammunition!"
In theBattle of Coral Sea, she escorted and picked up Lexington's crewmen. In the battle of Midway she escorted Yorktown. During the battle of Savo Island in August, she lost three sisters just overnight. New Orleans didn't get any supply from July through September, eating Spam three times a day.
But what else could she do? Cruisers are indispensable after all. Heavy cruisers were needed everywhere. The New Orleans-class was needed everywhere.
In the battle of Tassafaronga, she and Minneapolis were blown up from the bow (and they left famous but embarrassing photos), but relying on their excellent and skilled crew members, they remained afloat and returned to the battlefield soon enough. In 1943, she escorted Lexington, who was struck by a torpedo, and was even hit by an aircraft from Yorktown. However, she only shrugged and continued with her job, tried not to think about their predecessors.
New Orleans eventually won 17 Battle Stars, and she feels very honored to be able to continue working. "After all, our class is the predecessor for all the new heavy cruisers," she said proudly.
