Her eye shapes are taken from the lower part of a glyph for "misfortune", and the motif for her pupils is a Mario coin. There's ¥ symbols faintly worked into the lashes of both sisters, by the way.

Her eye shapes are taken from a glyph for "poverty", and her pupils are broken rice bowls. The lower portion of the glyph can also mean "money", which I figure works out perfectly.

She has huge lashes like a pair of open double doors. I was going to put elements of a drum into her eyes, but this made them reeeeally dark, so I nixed that.

Satono's lashes are two bamboo grass leaves apiece. Mai's are the the shape of a cut end of bamboo with rounded frills. Also, since they're the Crazy Backup Dancers, I gave them quick-and-easy spinny eyes.
