Laid down as battlecruiser on 25 September 1920 by New York Shipbuilding Corporation of Camden, New Jersey

Launched on 7 April 1925, after conversion to aircraft carrier.

Operation Crossroads. Saratoga survived the first test, Able, with little damage.

Operation Crossroads. Saratoga was sunk by the second test -Baker

Commissioned on 16 November 1927.

Lexington-class Carriers USS Lexington CV-2 (Lost at the Battle of Coral Sea) & USS Saratoga CV-3

The cruiser USS Minneapolis (CA 36) took her under tow after a torpedo attack left her dead in the water.

She was laid down as a Battle Cruiser (CC 3), but got converted into an Aircraft Carrier (CV 3) before being launched.
