Ms. Hata no Kokoro, a menreiki, is composed of 66 masks. Now KKR48, a unit consisting of 48 masks selected from those 66, present their new Modern Noh of Darkness play called Ningyo-yaki in Love. A few days ago, the complete work was released.
The story of Ningyo-yaki in Love is as follows: The masks, each of which has its own individual personality, transform into humans and awaken to the emotion of love. They are flustered by this first-time feeling, embarrassment making their cheeks flush. But their hearts are burning so hot that the masks themselves become baked brown, and they can no longer maintain their human shape. As their true form is found out, their relationships break down, but all the men who were in love with the masks remember the masks fondly whenever they visit a shop selling ningyo-yaki.
What a moving story! All of Gensokyo was in tears—this magazine writer included, of course. At first glance, Ms. Hata no Kororo looks unemotional, and yet she revealed this pure love story. Maybe it is precisely because there is an empty space that she can absorb everything and then release it again in a pure form. Her next work is eagerly awaited.
