Last Flagship of the Combined Fleet Because Ooyodo never loaded the new type floatplane Shiun as intended, she’s left with no practical use. But thinking of the capacity of her hangar and the communication equipments designed for her duty as submarine squadron flagship, she’s entrusted with the task to become flagship of the Combined Fleet. But she is relieved after Operation A-Gou (Battle of the Phillipine Sea). After that the fleet command is moved on to land so she never act as flagship again. During Operation Rei-Gou (Battle at Mindoro Island Sea) the Command also tried to use destroyer Kasumi as flagship instead of the cruiser Ashigara or Ooyodo.
