A collection of posts that shows the members of the IJN 8th Fleet (第八艦隊 Dai-hachi Kantai), best known for its first commander Vice Admiral Gunichi Mikawa, earning the name Mikawa's Fleet. Its most prominent operations were the Battle of Savo Island, the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal and Operation Ke.

Choukai was scuttled after being disabled in the Battle off Samar.
Aoba was disabled and eventually sunk by air attack at Kure.
Kinugasa was sunk by air attack in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal.
Furutaka was sunk by surface action during the Battle of Cape Esperance.
Kako was sunk by submarine while en route to Kavieng returning from the Battle of Savo Island.
Tenryuu was sunk by submarine off Madang.
Yuubari was sunk by submarine off Palau.
